Below is a map showing the broad biogeographical regions used to compile the list of species that appear on the six field data sheets for SABAP2. These lists and regions were originally formulated from the SABAP1 dataset. The purpose of these lists is to provide you with a fairly comprehensive list of species within a particular region so that when you are out atlasing (in your chosen pentad) and you are using the field data sheets to record your species, you can use an appropriate species list for the area in which you are carrying out your survey.
Please remember, however, that these regions have been defined as a guide to help you make the best selection for a field sheet, and do not represent complete species lists for a specific region. There will, undoubtedly, be times when an overlap occurs, and coupled with the fact that some species have moved into new regions since SABAP1, the data sheet you select for your surveys may not be appropriate (i.e. you find yourself adding more species to the sheet that should be reflected on the list for that region). In these situations, we recommend you download the two data sheets that cover both regions and use whichever one you regard as being the more comprehensive.
