Hi Team
All the best for 2008 --- may all your SABAP2 lists be long.
How does one work out which was the 50000th record submitted to SABAP2?
We did it two ways. 1. We worked out which was the 50000th record to arrivein the database. 2. We also did it in a subtly different way. We reordered the records by date order, and worked out which was the 50000th record to be made by an observer (i.e. regardless of when it was submitted).
The "winner" in category 1 was John Carter from Somerset West. John has made a great contribution to SABAP2, both as project champion in the Somerset West Bird Club and by atlasing in the pentads all around the western end of the Overberg.
The "winner" in category 2 was Brian Steele-Drew of Phalaborwa. Brian has done lots of checklists for just four pentads, a few every month since the project started in July. The Wire-tailed Swallow that Brian recorded in pentad 2345_3120 on 21 November has turned out to be the 50000th chronological record in the SABAP2 database.
Well done John and Brian, and thanks to all the winners who helped us towards the 50000 total.
This morning we were on 74101 records received. So we will very soon have the 75000th submission. But we will wait have to wait awhile to work out whose record was the 75000th to be observed.
There are two weeks left for the Summer Challenge, and the results to date are on the website. Ernst Retief and Andre Marx have each covered 14 new pentads since the beginning of December.
Well done all, and thanks for your ongoing contributions to SABAP2.
